The natural and spiritual causes of hypersensitivity in menopause. What really causes oversensitivity during menopause? Exploring hormonal and spiritual shifts in menopause, and what we can do about them.

Why We Suffer From Hypersensitivity In Menopause
During menopause and perimenopause, we have all sorts of fluctuations and changes to hormones that can trigger all sorts of hypersensitivity, such as more sensitive skin, food intolerances, emotional sensitivity, and even sensory overload.
If you are already highly sensitive or empathic, hyper-sensitivity in menopause can take your levels of sensitivity to a whole new level. And make you feel even more conscious and sensitive to the world around you and within.
Hormones And Hyper-Sensitivity In Menopause
When we reach perimenopause, the adrenal glands start to take over the production of oestrogen, which can cause all sorts of challenges as estrogen and progesterone levels start to decline into menopause.
This can influence your mood, quality, and amount of sleep, especially as estrogen is vital for the mood-enhancing hormone serotonin. And progesterone is what helps keep us calm and reduces our anxiety. No wonder women feel more mentally and emotionally sensitive during menopause.
Now, when our adrenal glands are busy producing stress hormones, we have even more fluctations in estrogen and progesterone, which leads to all sorts of mental, emotional, and physical health issues.
Such as an increased risk of anxiety attacks, inflammation, hypersensitivity, heart palpitations, irritability, brain fog, high blood pressure, and increased risk of cardiovascular issues.
That is why it is so important for menopausal women to do what they can to support their nervous system, reduce their stress, and take extra care of their health during menopause. Do what we can to take pressure off the adrenal glands; boost estrogen, progesterone, and serotonin levels.
But I believe there is also something more going on…
Emotional and Psychic Hypersensitivity In Menopause
Because the reality is, menopause is more than just biological. From a spiritual perspective, menopause is seen as a God-ordained transition or “Wise Woman” initiation.
One of the things I noticed as a healer was how many women start to become much more empathic, intuitive, and psychic as they reach menopause. It is especially obvious in women who have tried to deny or suppress their more spiritual or intuitive side.
Suddenly, their psychic sensitivity becomes so strong that they find they can no longer shut it out. For some, this can be extremely overwhelming or even frightening, especially for those who are highly empathic, who tend to absorb the energies of the people and the world around them. Or those with certain beliefs that view these gifts as bad, evil, or wrong.

Honouring Hypersensitivity In Menopause
However, when we recognise menopause for what it is from a more spiritual perspective, a powerful rite of passage, that is there to heal our deepest wounds, awaken our spiritual gifts and deeper wisdom.
We begin to see menopause as a time to slow down, pause, and go inward. And recognise our sensitivity as a gift that needs to be harnessed and mastered.
We see this stage of our life as a period for deeper spiritual connection and remembering, where we begin to awaken and nurture the wise crone (the wise crown) within.
Menopause should not be perceived as a burden, a loss, or a stigma, but a gift honoured to us for the next stage of our lives.
