What Is Procrastination?
Procrastionation is a pattern of delay; putting off or postponing essential tasks, not doing things that need to be done even though there will be reprecussions, blowback or disadvantages to not doing these tasks.
Myths Around Procrastination
Many people assume procrastination is laziness when in reality procrastination is wanting to do something but being so overwhelmed by the triggers; the feelings or response it brings up to due to a struggle with self-regulation.

Understanding What Triggers Procrastination
Procrastination is usually triggered by emotional discomfort; the anxiety, stress or trauma response we have to certain task characteristics. For example when the task is something that takes us out of our comfort zone; something we don’t find easy, or a task that seems to difficult, big or complicated, or requires to behave a certain way.
We are more likely to suffer procrastination when we are already mentally, emotionally or physically exhausted, overwhelmed, feeling depressed, suffering from grief or dealing with trauma.
Because highly sensitive people, empaths, people with sensory processing challenges or those suffering from PTSD or CPTSD are more easily overwhelmed, they are more likely to fall into the procrastination cycle.

That is why it is important for people who get easily overwhelmed by the world around them to do what they can to regulate their nervous system and find healthier ways to manage certain tasks.
